JR Eason
I was born and raised in a rural setting in south-eastern Idaho, on a farm/ranch. Although my summers were busy with ranch work, this time seemed almost idyllic in contrast to the severe Idaho winters that often left us snowbound and unable to negotiate the drifts to our country school house. As the snow blew horizontally outside our windows, I would pass my time drawing women and playing with paper-dolls. It was at this point, I believe, that my fascination for the human figure, especially the grace of the female, was born.
Marrying immediately after completing high school, I had no opportunity for formal art training, but fulfilled one aspect of creativity in becoming a cosmetologist, again intrigued with the female countenance. It was during this period of time I had the privilege of studying painting with Sergie Bongart, and still today he influences my sculpting.
Being a single mom of three for the next several years, numerous moves, and often working two jobs did not leave time to pursue the work I loved most...art.
My path led me "home" to Montana in 1988. I seized the opportunity for artistic fulfillment, and began a passionate relationship with "clay". I progressed through workshops with nationally credible teachers, and poured over anatomy books on my own. I will continue to study and learn from the masters in my profession, while developing my own style and ideas.
